Erling Haaland continues to rewrite the history books at Manchester City.
The Norwegian striker scored twice in Tuesday’s Champions League victory over Porto, taking his Manchester City tally to 167 goals in just 203 appearances and moving him into third place on the club’s all-time scoring chart.
Haaland’s latest landmark came during a memorable night in Europe, as City made a winning start to their Champions League campaign.
The 26-year-old opened his account early in the second half, rising to meet Enzo Fernández’s cross and directing his header against the post and into the net. He then completed his brace shortly before the final whistle, calmly rolling the ball home to seal another impressive individual performance.
His two goals saw him overtake Tommy Johnson, who scored 166 goals in 355 appearances for City between 1920 and 1930.
Only two players now stand ahead of Haaland in the club’s scoring history: Eric Brook, with 177 goals, and Sergio Agüero, with 260.
Considering Haaland has reached 167 goals in only 203 matches, his rapid rise up the rankings is remarkable.
Haaland’s Incredible City Record
Since arriving at the Etihad in the summer of 2022, Haaland has been almost unstoppable in front of goal.
During his debut season, he scored a staggering 52 goals in all competitions, helping City complete a historic Treble. He also claimed his first Premier League Golden Boot after scoring a record-breaking 36 league goals.
He followed that up with another prolific campaign in 2023/24, scoring 27 Premier League goals and 38 times across all competitions.
Haaland added another 34 goals during the 2024/25 campaign before once again finishing as the Premier League’s leading scorer last season.
Now, as he begins another season in Manchester, the striker is showing few signs of slowing down.
He has already scored five goals in his first five competitive matches, underlining why he remains one of the most feared forwards in world football.
Another Champions League Milestone
Haaland’s dominance extends beyond domestic football.
He has now scored 59 goals in 59 Champions League appearances, a remarkable scoring rate that places him among the competition’s greatest-ever marksmen.
Of those goals, 36 have come in a Manchester City shirt, putting him level with Agüero as the club’s joint-highest scorer in Champions League history.
That achievement is particularly impressive given the company he is keeping. Haaland has already surpassed several legendary City forwards on the club’s overall scoring list, including Colin Bell, Billy Meredith and Francis Lee.
A Leader On and Off the Pitch
Haaland’s influence at City is no longer limited to his goals.
As one of the senior figures in the squad, he has increasingly taken on a leadership role while continuing to deliver the goals that have made him one of the best strikers of his generation.
Tuesday’s brace was another reminder of his extraordinary consistency.
At just 26, Haaland is already third on Manchester City’s all-time goalscoring list. With Brook only 10 goals ahead of him, it may not be long before the Norwegian moves into second place.
And if his remarkable scoring rate continues, even Agüero’s club record of 260 goals could eventually come under serious threat.
For now, though, Haaland can celebrate another historic milestone in a City career that is becoming more impressive with every game.
